On Monday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Beetle declared last night’s elimination as the worst collapse of Patrice Bergeron’s career.
This is the worst loss of his career...
Marc Bertrand: I hope someway, somehow Patrice Bergeron finds it within him to continue his career. Because that is a brutal way to go home. Brutal.
Scott Zolak: I don’t know. (Tom) Brady walked off and he could still play.
Marc Bertrand: Did he have an epic collapse like this? Did Brady go 16-0 and only lose in the divisional round. I mean, that’s what this is.
Scott Zolak: No, no. That’d be like losing a wild card.
Hardy: This one feels different than the (Stanley) Cup finals losses in ’13 and in ’19.
Marc Bertrand: Oh, this is so much worse. Worse than the Flyers series. Worse than the Cup losses. This is the worst collapse of his career. This is the worst playoff loss of his career.
Scott Zolak: You lost seven times on home ice this year.
Marc Bertrand: This is it. This is without a doubt the worst thing that he’s ever had to deal with from going home and feeling crappy about it at the end of the year. Worse than coming back after winning it and losing to Washington. This is worse than all of them.
T-Bone: How about 2014?
Marc Bertrand: Similar, but not this bad. They went all in. The Bruins did everything. They were so deep. Two goaltenders, they loaded up at the trade deadline. Everything worked. This feels worse. And this was all about him, too. As Ty Anderson was telling us the other day, that the guys in that room all year long have been open, at least with the guys who cover the team about it being all about Bergy. We gotta win this one for him.
