Red Sox righty Nick Pivetta delivered a throwback pitching performance on Wednesday night at Fenway Park, pitching only the fourth complete game of the season across all of Major League Baseball. Pivetta allowed just one run on two hits in nine innings, with the lone run coming from a leadoff solo home run by Jose Altuve in the first inning.

From there, Pivetta cruised through eight shutout innings with just one hit and no walks. He struck out eight and threw 112 pitches, 78 for strikes. The pitch count was Pivetta’s highest as a member of the Red Sox and the second-most in a single start of his career.
