Felger & Mazz

A recent ranking of starting quarterbacks in the NFL had New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones very low on the list. Between that low ranking on the quarterback and the over/under on the Patriots wins being in the 2023 season, Felger seems to think that Patriots are becoming underrated.

  • Are the Patriots becoming underrated?

Felger: Here’s a football item for you or a developing opinion on the Patriots….You want it?

    Mazz: Sure.

    Jim Murray: Yeah.

Felger: They’re becoming underrated. The team and the quarterback are becoming underrated. Which you might find odd to hear from me because I’ve done nothing but bash them for like three years, but I feel like – and I need to also give a Felger and Mazz definition, okay. Overrated doesn’t mean you suck, it just means you’re overrated, and underrated doesn’t mean you’re great, it just means people are underestimating you.

    Mazz: Correct.

Felger: So I don’t think the Patriots are great, but they are now officially trending into the territory of being underrated.

Jim Murray: I’m not surprised to hear you say this.

    Felger: Because I’m too fair.

Jim Murray: No, because you’re still stuck in the past with this team.

Felger: Where you’re biased and emotional. But it is unfair, for example, Vegas to have an over under of 7.5. That’s what it is, right?

Jim Murray: I believe last I checked.

Felger: Do I have that right?

Mazz: I think that’s right. Yeah, I think that’s right.

  • Felger: 7.5? Too low. And for example, for a entity like CBSSports.com to come out with a quarterback ranking, a quarterback tiers if you will, Cody Benjamin ranking his 32 quarterbacks and having Mac Jones ranked 29th.

    Mazz: Yeah that’s low.

Jim Murray: That is fair and just is what that is.

Felger: See what I’m talking about?

Mazz: No, I mean that that’s a low number.

Felger: Ok, is 29 too low?

    Mazz: Yes.

    Felger: Categorically it’s too low.

Mazz: Yes, but how much higher is it?

Felger: Well, we’ll do a little exercise here. Murray, why is it not too low?

    Jim Murray: Middling talent.

    Felger: Middling is 16th.

Jim Murray: Middling talent. Let me finish. Middling talent. Then you add the fact that he’s unprofessional, bad attitude, antiquated skill set. I’m good. Couldn’t get along with coaches. Did he try to make it work last year? 29th is where he belongs. Fair and just. I saw this last night and fist bumped when I saw you and Michael Holley talking about this! 29th! This is where he belongs.

Felger: That’s underrating Mac Jones. And it’s underrating the Patriots.
