Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla is trying his best to be tight-lipped about Jaylen Brown’s hand laceration, but he’s certainly said enough to make fans feel better.

It was promising enough that Brown was present at practice in the first place at the Auerbach Center on Monday. But after Brown’s cut “split open” (in his own words) during Game 1 against the Hawks last Saturday, it was unclear how his hand felt in the aftermath and what to expect for Game 2. But the latest sounds about as promising as one can hope.

  • Mazzulla was peppered with questions about Brown’s hand, apparently just before he took the court for practice. He said he wasn’t sure what kind of treatment Brown needed on his hand over the past few days. Perhaps just being coy, there.

However, when asked if Brown needed any new stitches on his hand, Mazzulla did respond, “No, I don’t think so.” And when asked to confirm there were “no restrictions” on Brown in practice Monday, Mazzulla gave a definitive no.

  • The hand injury obviously didn’t bother Brown too much in Game 1 against Atlanta. He finished with a game-high 29 points while shooting 52.2 percent from the field, and led the team with 12 rebounds. He did commit a team-high six turnovers, which he admitted he’s looking to clean up for Game 2.

Either way, it’s sounding like Brown is going to be good to go for Game 2. Hopefully those stitches hold a little bit tighter.
