As the Kevin Durant trade rumors swirled this NBA offseason, Jaylen Brown was the main name that was brought up for the Celtics. On Thursday’s Felger and Mazz, they seemed to disagree on if Brown was ever officially offered to the Brooklyn Nets in a trade or if it was only rumors.

Felger: Did they offer him or not? Like, why don’t you answer the question, man?

Mazz: Yeah, I don’t think he was offered.

Felger: So Shams got it wrong.

    Mazz: Yeah.

    J-Stew: Yeah.

Mazz: I don’t think there was as much of a market for Durant as you do.

Felger: I’m not saying there was either. I’m not saying there was.

Jim Murray: Mazz, you don’t think there’s like a little PR spin going on from the Celtics?

Mazz: Oh sure, there’s always a PR spin.

Felger: Of course, the Nets were trying to drive up the price. Of course the Nets where the one leaking it. Of course the Nets where the one that asked for Jaylen Brown. Okay, fine. All of that. What did the Celtics say?

Mazz: They obviously said no Mike.

    Felger: Did they?

Mazz: Well, they would have made the deal otherwise.

Felger: Who’s to say that’s not what Shams said? Shams said that Brown was on the table and the Nets said no, the Nets wanted more.

    Mazz: Do you believe that?

    Felger: Yes.

    Mazz: I don’t.

    Felger: I do.

    Mazz: I don’t.

    Felger: I stand with Shams.

Mazz: I think it would be stupid for the Nets.

Felger: I think shams is a better NBA reporter than you. As good as you are, I think shams has a better track record.

    J-Stew: I don’t I stand with Mazz.

Mazz: Yeah, I don’t give a rat’s ass. It doesn’t mean shams can’t be wrong. He is a better NBA reporter than I am. It doesn’t mean that he can’t be wrong.

Felger: And I don’t think Marcus Smart was the hang up either. If I had to guess, it’s 3 first rounders versus one. 3 firsts and two pick swaps versus 1 first round pick. My guess is that if there was a hang up, it was the first round picks more than Marcus Smart.

Mazz: It was about Jaylen Brown, Mike. If Jaylen Brown’s in the deal, Brooklyn makes it.

Felger: But how come no one could just come out and say.

Mazz: How come Brooklyn didn’t make the deal?

    Felger: Because they wanted more.

Mazz: Jaylen Brown wasn’t enough? He should have been.

Felger: You know, I tend to agree with you, but they don’t.

Mazz: Okay. Well, I mean, what can I tell you? I don’t think that Jaylen Brown was ever formally offered to the Nets.

Felger: After the fact then how come we don’t just come out and say it?

Mazz: I can’t answer that for you. I don’t know why teams do business the way they do.

Felger: I don’t get the dancing. I mean, the dancing from Washburn is like…Sean Marks asked for Jaylen Brown. The Celtics responded by calling Jaylen Brown and saying, “this is what’s going on and we’re not leaking things to the media”.

    Mazz: Well, because Jaylen Brown…

Felger: They didn’t call Jaylen Brown and say “you’re not being offered”. They called him up and said, “this is what’s happening and we’re not talking to the media”. But okay, great. You’re not talking to the media and we’re going to keep you posted of what’s going on. Are you on the table for Kevin Durant or not? Why are we, why are we afraid to report this head on? I don’t get it. And my guess is that he was. And the Celts are trying to have it both ways. And Stevens can’t come out and just boldface lie like the previous guy would.

Mazz: Yeah. Look, again, there’s every possibility he was on the table. I just think if he were on the table, Brooklyn would have made the deal. What better offer was out there? And that and Jaylen Brown….

Felger: No, no, it was still the best offer. But they didn’t want to trade Durant at the end of the day.

Mazz: But Jaylen Brown for Kevin Durant’s a good offer.

Felger: No, it is. I agree.

Mazz: That’s a good offer. If they really wanted to move Durant they would’ve taken it.

Felger: Still wasn’t what they wanted. Still wasn’t what they wanted.

Mazz: Well, then they didn’t want to move him.

Felger: Yeah, well, that’s what Washburn wrote, and I agree with that too.

Mazz: And the whole thing is one big yank.

Felger: Yeah, a yank to Durant saying just “yeah, we’ll try to trade you”. And then at the end of the day, you come back to and say, “we tried, we couldn’t get anything”.

Mazz: And I don’t think the Celtics really wanted to move Jaylen Brown either. So I think the whole thing was one big yank. That’s what I think.

    J-Stew: I stand with Mazz.

    Felger: We’re yanking it here.

Mazz: And Shams can kiss my ass.

J-Stew: He can kiss mine too.
