Tony DeAngelo apparently wasn’t impressed with Bruins fans, TD Garden
Hurricanes defenseman Tony DeAngelo has officially embraced his role as the top heel of this first-round series between the Bruins and Hurricanes.
A day after Brad Marchand & Co. accelerated DeAngelo’s meltdown in a series-tying Game 4 win over the Canes, DeAngelo took to the podium and gave his thoughts on anything and everything, including Boston’s crowds at TD Garden.
“There’s no panic in our locker room,” DeAngelo said in what was a pretty testy Monday meeting with the Carolina media. “It’s a 2-2 series and we’re back in front of a much louder building than in Boston, so we’ll be fine.”
Ooooooooh, didja hear that?! Boston isn’t loud! There’s no cowbells or airhorns! Nobody yells one word of the Star-Spangled Banner real loud. DeAngelo isn’t at all bothered by the fact that Marchand and the Bruins were able to worm their way inside his head, and he definitely wasn’t bothered by the entire Garden booing him whenever he touched the puck in Game 4. Nope, no sir! It’s just that ‘Caniacs’ are the loudest fans in the world, of course.
“Our crowd has been the loudest that I’ve played in front of [and] been in front of,” DeAngelo said. “They’ll make a big difference for us tomorrow night.”

But, this wasn’t the only notable comment of DeAngelo’s Monday.
Following his incident with Marchand, and on a day that saw the Hurricanes whistled for 18 penalty minutes in all (giving the Bruins a staggering nine power-play opportunities), DeAngelo was asked if Carolina lost their cool.
“No,” DeAngelo said about the Hurricanes going over and the line. “I don’t know what emotions we’re talking about here. It’s playoff hockey [and] we’re losing the game, right? So, obviously we’re a little frustrated, but I don’t think anything happened. Nothing happened in the game. Everybody wants to write a little story or something, but we’re trying to win a series here, so if you don’t have any fire then you’re not going to win. So I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing, and I’m not very concerned what anybody thinks.”
As for the incident with Marchand?
“Nothing,” DeAngelo, who at point during his media scrum seemed to critique the questions being lobbed his way, said. “Just playoff hockey. All good.”
DeAngelo was even asked about his late-game stick throw towards Marchand’s path to the empty-net goal, and had a straight-up bizarre response when reminded that it’s not allowed.

“Yeah, is that right?” DeAngelo said when told he can’t throw his stick. “It’s going to be a goal anyway, right? It counts. I’d rather knock off the puck, just to, you know, if it’s knocked off his stick it’s going to be a goal anyway, so would you rather see it go in the net or go wide? It is what it is. It doesn’t bother me very much that I can’t do it.”
What a weird dude.
