Torey Krug says goodbye to Boston in heartfelt post

Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug didn’t leave Boston the way he would have preferred (he didn’t want to leave at all), but the Bruins-turned-Blues puckmover didn’t leave without saying goodbye to the only NHL city he’s ever known.
“I am so grateful that Melanie and I could call Boston home for the last 8 years,” Krug wrote in a 10-picture, two-post goodbye on Instagram. “I have no words to describe how much the city, my teammates, and the fans mean to us. The truth is, I was never a fan of these types of posts but felt it necessary as my only means to connect with you guys.
“Thank you to the Bruins organization for the opportunity to grow as a player and a person. Thank you to my teammates for the amazing memories and what will be lifelong bonds. Thank you to the fans and the community for embracing my family as one of your own.”
In Boston for nine seasons, Krug emerged as one of the game’s premier offensive defenseman during his time in town, and departs as the franchise’s highest-scoring American-born player, with 337 points in 523 career games.
Off to the Blues on a seven-year, $45.5 million contract, Krug leaves Boston with one regret: That he wasn’t part of a Stanley Cup-winning team. (Krug was actually the longest-tenured Boston athlete to not win a title until his exit earlier this month.)
“I truly feel terrible that I couldn’t help bring another Stanley Cup to Boston,” Krug wrote. “But I leave with some amazing memories and having played with Hall of Famers on some truly special teams. I wanted to share a few pictures of some of these memories but couldn’t manage to keep the pictures to a minimum.”
