Hopes of a 'fully' healthy Bruins team were indeed premature, as this week has come with another loss from the B's roster, with forward Morgan Geekie notably absent from Wednesday's practice.

And it had nothin' to do with maintenance or a little extra rest and relaxation

“Geekie’s week-to-week," Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery confirmed following the session at Warrior Ice Arena. "He suffered an upper-body injury and he’s week-to-week right now.”

A staple of Boston's middle-six forward grouping, and most notably when skating with Matt Poitras, Geekie departs the Boston lineup with one goal and three points through 12 games.

Averaging what's been a career-high 14:15 of time on ice out of the gate this season, Geekie has thrived doing the 'little things' that seemingly go under the radar. His 11 blocks are the seventh-most among all B's skaters, and tops among all forwards. Geekie has also been a supremely effective weapon at he faceoff dot, with wins in 36 of his 65 battles at the dot (a 55.4 percent success rate).

Geekie is just the latest loss from a Boston forward group that's still without both Jakub Lauko and Milan Lucic, with the losses really testing the depth towards the bottom of the B's forward group.

But good news may be around the corner when it comes to those two, as Lauko returned to practice Wednesday, albeit with a no-contact jersey and a full cage.

Injured when he took a skate near the eye in Chicago, it would appear that the 23-year-old Lauko is still a bit away, but is in the day-to-day part of his recovery.

“Lauko’s just starting his stage and process of getting back," Montgomery noted. "He’s definitely out [Thursday] and we’ll see how he progresses from there.”

A penalty-drawing menace, Lauko recorded five hits and six shots on goal in six games this season.

Lucic, meanwhile, was on the ice for Thursday's morning skate in what is the veteran wing's first real stride since returning from the injury that's kept him on the shelf for the last eight games. With Lucic being on long-term injured reserve, he will eligible to return to Boston's lineup on Nov. 18 against the Canadiens

On the backend, while Matt Grzelcyk is still a ways off from a return to game action, the Bruins got some good news with Derek Forbort labeled as 'probable' for the club's Thursday night showdown with the Islanders.

Forbort has missed the last three games due to injury, and has missed four games in total through the first 12 games of the new campaign. The 6-foot-4 defender has two assists and a plus-7 rating, along with 13 hits and 16 blocked shots, in eight games this season.

Should Forbort draw back into the mix, Parker Wotherspoon would be the likely scratch on the Boston backend as the Bruins will have to soldier on without do-it-all defender Charlie McAvoy for one more game after NHL commissioner Gary Bettman decided to uphold McAvoy's four-game suspension.
