Jakub Lauko is, in fact, a hockey player.
The 23-year-old Bruins forward has now played 29 NHL games and appears poised to play a big role among the team’s bottom-six forwards in the 2023-24 season. But despite being an established professional at the NHL level, Lauko has never had better proof of his status as a hockey player than this.

— Jakub Lauko (@jakub_lauko) October 27, 2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter page Friday, showing off a nice fat eye contusion and stitched-up face following a scary-looking injury during Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Lauko took a skate blade to the face as he got tangled up with the Blackhawks’ Jason Dickinson. The immediate spritz of blood from Lauko’s face was alarming.
But fortunately, we can now have a laugh about the whole thing, because Lauko and his eye are fine. You can see the photo he shared below. We’ll give you a friendly warning, in case you’re squeamish about stitches and/or bad face injuries.

Lauko even joked about a “modeling career [definitely] in jeopardy” with the photo. He’s known for having a jovial personality, so no surprise there.
Hockey fans and those who have been around the game in their lives should appreciate Lauko’s photo. It’s almost like a badge of honor for hockey players to take a puck or a stick or a SKATE to the face and get back to the ice with a nice shiner.
It’s always extra-concerning when you’re talking about skate blades and cuts in the head/neck area. But it’s good to see that Lauko will just need to sit out this week and get back to action soon. With an outstanding fresh battle scar.

3 Stars: Ducks spoil B's night with late-game stunners
It took 100 seconds in the third period, and 128 seconds in the overtime session, for the pesky Ducks to turn what was looking like a record-breaking night into pure devastation for the Bruins.
The Bruins, of course, decided to help them out along the way with about a billion failed clears late in the third period and an almost completely possession-free overtime frame. It was about as maddening an ending as the Bruins could have had, especially when you factor in the chances that the Bruins let slip out of reach en route to the collapse.
“I mean, we had opportunities,” Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said after the loss. “I thought the game was over twice [if] we put it in an empty net; guys whiffing on pucks and guys trying to go for the open net instead of using the walls as an indirect to clear and get off the ice. You know, that was mostly it.
“And the other thing is we could have extended our lead to 4-1 or 5-1. We had many opportunities to do it and we didn’t finish the game. You couple those things together, it’s inexcusable. You can’t you can’t be up 3-1 [with] five minutes left and end up tied in overtime.”
