Nick Ritchie fined $5,000 for Game 5 elbow
Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy wasn’t the only one opening his wallet after the team’s Game 5 loss to the New York Islanders Monday night. Forward Nick Ritchie has also been hit with a $5,000 fine from the NHL.
Ritchie’s fine, which was announced by NHL Player Safety Tuesday morning, relates to contact he made with Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield in the first period of Game 5. Despite Ritchie appearing to hit a crouching Mayfield in the head with his elbow, no penalty was called at the time.

This is the third time a Bruins player has received a fine from the league during this series. Jake DeBrusk received a $5,000 tab for cross-checking Mayfield in Game 2, and David Krejci was fined the same amount for slashing Matt Barzal in Game 4. $5,000 is the maximum fine allowed under the NHL’s current collective bargaining agreement.
The Bruins currently trail the Islanders 3-2 in the series. Game 6 is set for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 7:00 on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
