Special Olympics Massachusetts is changing the way people with Intellectual disabilities are seen in the world. Join them and help create a more inclusive community where you live.

Through the power of sport, Special Olympics athletes with intellectual disabilities show:

  • That they can compete in 23 Olympic-type sports
  • That they can train and improve their skills
  • That they can develop teamwork and communications skills

What do their athletes do? Through their Athlete Leadership, they change the way we all see the world. They do this by competing in sports, bringing schools together, taking responsibility for their health and wellness, and Special Olympics supports their efforts thought community events with our dedicated partners.

Internationally, Special Olympics has over 5 million athletes in 174 countries. Over 1 million volunteers make over 103,000 competition possible each year. That’s an average of 284 competitions a day, 12 competitions an hour. The organization also provides health and wellness screenings to athletes, including dental and eye exams. The movement has also spread into schools, reaching students in their classrooms and on their sports teams, promoting a more inclusive world.
