The Boston Bruins are off to a good start in the 2023-24 season, and there was plenty to like about the team, but there are question marks as well.
That was the bulk of the conversation in the latest episode of the Sports Hub Underground podcast, which you can listen to by hitting the “Play” button above (get more episodes here). Ty Anderson and I dove deep into the Bruins’ season-opening win over the Chicago Blackhawks, and also went over the team’s official All-Centennial Team and did a Friday the 13th-themed “Big 3.”
The Good:
— Rookies Matt Poitras and John Beecher looked great
— Milan Lucic seems primed for a strong season, considering his role
— Hampus Lindholm and Brandon Carlo dominated as a pair from the second period on
The Not-So-Good:
— Bruins were 0-for-3 on the power play … they need to figure out better roles and fits for certain guys
— The one goal by Connor Bedard was a bad defensive breakdown, and Ullmark was also slow to react … bad all-around
— Charlie McAvoy had a strong game defensively and from a physical standpoint, but if he keeps playing that way, it might come at the expense of scoring from him
In addition to talking Bruins-Blackhawks, Ty and I discussed the Bruins’ All-Centennial Team, in which Ty did the honors of making the first pick (obviously Bobby Orr). We also drafted our “Big 3” horror movie villains that we’d least want to encounter in real life.
