The Frank J. Selke Trophy could be undergoing a name change when all is said and done.

And if and when that does happen, that’ll be because Patrice Bergeron has dominated the award like no other, with Monday’s NHL Awards officially making Bergeron a six-time winner of the Selke Trophy.

The 37-year-old Bergeron, who was not in Nashville for the show due to his wife’s pregnancy, began the day as an NHL-record five-time Selke Trophy winner after last year’s win.

  • Bergeron’s latest Selke win came in downright dominant fashion, too, as Bergeron captured 187 of 196 first-place votes. The only other players to capture multiple first-place votes: Los Angeles center Anze Kopitar (two first-place votes), the Devils’ Nico Hischier (three first-place votes), and Toronto’s Mitch Marner (three first-place votes).

  • Boston’s do-it-all center of almost two decades, Bergeron’s win came after a 2022-23 campaign that included a league-leading 61.1 percent faceoff percentage, as well as an NHL-best 1,043 faceoff wins. This was Bergeron’s fifth season of at least 1,000 wins at the dot, which has happened just 23 times in total since the start of the 2005-06 year.

Bergeron also had a team-best 59.8 corsi-for percentage, while Boston held an on-ice shot differential of plus-203 and outscored opponents 46-18 with Bergeron on the ice at five-on-five play.

  • Bergeron is also the only player in NHL history to have two separate runs of back-to-back Selke victories, as Bergeron also captured the award in back-to-back years back in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Should Bergeron return for 2023-24, he will look to become the first back-to-back-to-back Selke winner since Pavel Datsyuk, and just the third in the history of award, which started with four straight wins by Bob Gainey.
