Bruins fans collectively held their breath on Tuesday night.

That was for multiple reasons. First of all, the B’s were inching ever closer to breaking another NHL record. They ended up pulling it off with a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals, which pushed them to 133 points, breaking the long-standing record held by the hated Montreal Canadiens. But frankly, the record didn’t mean much compared to the status of goaltender Linus Ullmark, who had to exit the game early.

Fortunately, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery provided fans with the update they needed.

  • “It was just precautionary. He’s gonna be fine,” Montgomery said on Ullmark after the game. He described Ullmark’s injury as “just some muscle-tightening.”

Ullmark stopped 17 of 18 Washington shots before exiting in the third period. The lone goal he gave up was after a tough deflection off the lower body of Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy.

This appears to be the moment Ullmark tweaked something as he was ranging from left to right:

  • Well, that’s a major sigh of relief for Bruins fans. Ullmark has been projected to be their starting goaltender to begin the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. It appears that whatever happened to him Tuesday night, it won’t hold him back going forward.

The Bruins are now 64-12-5 on the season after setting another NHL record in their win over the Capitals. They will close out the regular season on Thursday night in Montreal against the Canadiens. It would be surprising if they didn’t rest a lot of regulars, including Ullmark.
