  • The Bruins will be without David Krejci for at least one more game, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery revealed following Monday’s practice at Warrior Ice Arena.

“Krejci is going to travel with us, [but] he’s out [Tuesday] night, most likely out Thursday as well,” Montgomery said.

The downer of an update on the 36-year-old Krejci comes just days after Montgomery had little to offer in terms of an update on his second-line center ahead of last Friday’s head-to-head with the Blue Jackets. It was then that the team noted that Krejci needed imaging done before the Bruins had a further update beyond the current ‘day-to-day’ timeline.

Now, the fact that Krejci is traveling for what will be a three-game road trip for the Bruins means that the team has a legitimate hope that the recovery will be a quick one. Even with Tuesday in Pittsburgh off the table and Thursday in New York looking unlikely, traveling indicates that Saturday against the Maple Leafs may be a legitimate possibility.

  • Krejci’s injury has been a bit of a weird one from the jump, really, as it’s been relatively difficult to tell exactly what’s ailing him. We do know that he was certainly dinged up on a run-in with the Red Wings’ Michael Rasmussen in last Thursday’s win over Detroit, but it was unclear what exactly Krejci was favoring as he made his way down the tunnel.

The most we’ve gotten — and almost certainly the most we’ll get — out of the Bruins is that it’s an upper-body injury.

Krejci has totaled two goals and eight points through eight games played this season.

  • With Krejci out, the Bruins will keep Pavel Zacha in the middle of their second line with Pastrnak and Taylor Hall.

Zacha, a natural center, manned that spot in last Friday’s win over the Blue Jackets, and finished with an assist and a plus-2 rating in 16:50 of time on ice in the win.

“[Zacha] did a lot of good things,” Montgomery said of Zacha’s performance as a Krejci fill-in. “I thought he transported really well, thought he drove the play, and I thought he did a good job of getting pucks out to Hall and Pasta.

“And [in the] D-zone, he was closing quicker than we expected. It’s not an easy D-zone coverage for centers and he grasped it, and he’s getting better and better at it.”

The Bruins also placed Krejci on injured reserve shortly after Monday’s practice, meaning that he will be out until Thursday at the very least, and that the team has opened up a roster spot for additional help if and when necessary.
