A strong second-half push from Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman reached its high point last week with back-to-back shutout victories over the Jets and Sabres, and earned the B’s netminder ‘Third Star of The Week’ honors from the National Hockey League, the league announced Monday.

• Swayman’s big week kicked off with a 36-save shutout over the Jets on Thursday night, and required the Alaskan-born Swayman to stand on his head for large stretches of the contest while the Bruins found their game, as the Bruins were outshot in all three periods of play.

  The 24-year-old also had a little bit of luck on his side in the shutout performance (doesn’t every goaltender?), as the Jets clanged a couple of looks off the posts.

• Swayman then followed that performance up with a perfect 26-for-26 outing Sunday in Buffalo.

  With a seven-goal beating at the other end, the Bruins provided Swayman with tons of support in that contest, including a game-winning goal scored just 15 seconds into the first period of play, but Swayman came through with he needed to en route to the Bruins simply beating the fight out of Buffalo.

• The back-to-back shutouts from Swayman made him the first B’s netminder to post back-to-back shutouts in consecutive starts in a season since Tuukka Rask accomplished the feat in Apr. 2013.

  And as previously noted, it continued what’s been a downright dominant stretch of hockey for Swayman, who is 11-3-1 in 16 games played since the start of the calendar year. Swayman’s .937 save percentage over that span is tops in the league among qualifying goaltenders, and same for his 1.81 goals against average.

  Overall, Swayman has compiled a 18-6-4 record through 30 games this season, and boasts the league’s third-best goals against average (2.20), fourth-best save percentage (.920), and third-most shutouts (four).
