UPDATE: The Bruins are placing Taylor Hall on long-term injured reserve. So, the injury obviously is more serious than they initially believed.

Bruins forward Taylor Hall will sit out both of the team’s back-to-back games in western Canada with a lower body injury, but it doesn’t sound too bad.

Head coach Jim Montgomery updated reporters on Hall’s status following the Bruins’ morning skate on Monday, after Hall was not spotted on the ice. Montgomery explained that Hall traveled back to Boston after the team decided to rest him for the back-to-back against the Oilers and Flames. The head coach believes Hall’s injury is minor in nature.

  • “He’s lower body and we’re just precautionary,” Montgomery said. “I don’t think it’s anything serious, but with back-to-back games we didn’t see him playing so we sent him back [to Boston].”

With Hall out of the lineup, the Bruins moved Nick Foligno up to his usual spot at third-line left wing and called up A.J. Greer to play on the fourth line. Foligno scored his 10th goal of the season off a slick feed from Coyle as part of a 3-2 win over the Oilers at Rogers Place.

  • The Bruins will be back in Boston on Thursday night to face the Buffalo Sabres at TD Garden. It sounds like Hall will be expected back in the lineup at that point. (Update: Montgomery said after Tuesday night’s game in Calgary that Hall is not expected to be available against Buffalo. So I jumped the gun on that one.)
