  • Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney confirmed that the team has a professional tryout offer out there, but that the player had yet to make a decision.

Sweeney did not name the player, but noted that the offer was still standing, and that they were ready to bring him into the group should he choose to accept the offer.

That player is defenseman Anton Stralman, a source told 98.5 The Sports Hub.

  • A 36-year-old right-shot defenseman, Stralman spent the 2021-22 season with Arizona, and finished with eight goals and 23 points in 74 games for a dreadful Coyotes club.

In addition to his 23 points, Stralman also posted a minus-16 rating (fourth-worst among Arizona defensemen), and racked up 99 hits and 100 blocked shots while averaging 21:21 minutes per night.

Beyond the raw data, Stralman finished the year with a 44.25 corsi-for percentage (which for the Coyotes is actually kinda decent), and had a sub-40 offensive-zone start percentage.

A veteran of 930 NHL games since 2007-08, Stralman spent two seasons with the Panthers prior to his 2021-22 in Arizona, and had a five-year tenure with the Lightning prior to his time in Sunrise.

The 5-foot-11 defenseman’s best season came back in 2014-15 when he put up nine goals and 39 points in 82 games for the Lightning.

Stralman also has an extensive playoff resume, with 113 career Stanley Cup Playoff games to his name, including runs to the Stanley Cup Finals in both 2014 and 2015.

For Stralman, the reluctance to join the Bruins comes with the Swedish defenseman currently unsure if he wants to move to Boston and jump into the mix in what would be likely be a part-time role until Matt Grzelcyk and Charlie McAvoy return to the lineup in late November.
