  • The Bruins were less than 20 seconds away from securing at least a one point in their Friday night showdown with the Coyotes when an icing judgment call by a linesman and a misplay by Derek Forbort sent everything into an absolute frenzy and put the puck on Lawson Crouse’s stick for the game-winning goal in a 4-3 final at Mullett Arena.

And in case their on-ice reaction didn’t tell you, the Bruins viewed the aforementioned ‘judgment call’ as more than that. To them, it was a missed call, and one that led directly to a game-winning goal on Jeremy Swayman.

“We thought it should’ve been icing,” Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said. “It shouldn’t matter [if the puck went into the crease]. The only thing that should waive it off is whether our d-man can touch the puck before it crosses our goal line.”

  • “Yeah, I do,” Swayman said when asked if he thought it was an icing. “But, it is what it is. Moving on.”

Yeah, that about sums it up.

Though the focus of this loss will be on how it ended, the truth is that the Bruins got stonewalled by a locked-in goaltender once again, as the Coyotes’ Karel Vejmelka frustrated the Bruins into a loss behind a 43-of-46 effort in the Arizona net.

Boston’s 46 shots were a new season-high, and the Bruins had set a new season-high in high-danger scoring chances through two periods of play, according to Natural Stat Trick. They finished the night with 28 high-danger scoring chances at all-situational play.

  • And the bad news was that Vejmelka’s white-hot night coincided with a cold night for the Bruins’ Swayman, who surrendered four goals on just 16 shots faced in a losing effort.

In front of Swayman, the Bruins got goals from David Pastrnak, Charlie Coyle, and Nick Foligno.

Pastrnak’s goal, which opened the scoring for the Bruins, was good for Pastrnak’s 19th of the season, and extended his goal streak to four games. Overall, Pastrnak has now scored at least one goal in all but one of his last nine games, and has goals in 17 of his 26 appearances this season.

  • With the loss, the Bruins’ 19-game winning streak against the Coyotes, which dated all the way back to 2010 when the teams opened the 2010-11 season in Prague, came to an end. It was also the Coyotes’ first win over the Bruins on U.S. soil since Oct. 17, 2009.

The Bruins return to action Sunday night against the Golden Knights.
