Trading their Boston jerseys for Atlantic Division sweaters this weekend, the Black and Gold contingent of winger David Pastrnak, goaltender Linus Ullmark, and head coach Jim Montgomery brought their winning formula with them down to Sunrise for the 2023 NHL All-Star Game.

The Boston influence was enough for the Atlantic to leave the weekend as winners, too, as the Atlantic defeated the Metropolitan Division by a 10-6 final in the opening round of action before winning the annual three-on-three tournament with a 7-5 final over the Central Division.

  • Up front, Pastrnak kicked off the festivities with a one-goal and two-point outing in the Atlantic’s 10-6 win over the ‘rival’ Metro. For Pastrnak, the highlight of the first game came with a late-game takeaway of an Alex Ovechkin chance, which led to a Pastrnak breakaway goal to make it an even 10 goals for his squad.

Pastrnak even managed to beat Ovechkin’s defense of a stick toss, too.

  • And in the final, Pastrnak beat Connor Hellebuyck with a five-hole snipe that made it 5-1 for the Atlantic.

It would hold as Pastrnak’s lone goal and point of the final and in what finished as a 7-5 win for his team.

  • In goal, the 6-foot-5 Ullmark did about as well as you can hope for in an All-Star Game, with a 4-of-7 performance against the Metro to help punch the Altantic’s ticket to the finals.

Ullmark’s saves in the win came on four different shooters, too, as he made stops on the Blue Jackets’ Johnny Gaudreau, Washington’s Alex Ovechkin, the Hurricanes’ Andrei Svechnikov, and New York’s Brock Nelson.

The Lightning’s Andrei Vasilevskiy, meanwhile, stopped 10-of-13 for the Atlantic.

  • Ullmark brought in the finals, too, and turned aside all six shots he faced.

An All-Star Game shutout? The man’s an animal. No other way to put it.

That’s some ’99 Pedro Martinez at Fenway kind of stuff.

  • Behind the Atlantic bench, Montgomery did enough to manage his team to a win over Metro head coach Rod Brind’Amour and then Central head coach Pete DeBoer for the victory.

And Montgomery got some help from his son Colin, who was on the bench with him throughout the game, to make some key switches to make it all possible for the Atlantic, as Montgomery revealed in his postgame interview with Bruins team reporter Eric Russo.
