The Winter Classic: Soup to Nuts.

The NHL Winter Classic, America's favorite outdoor hockey game, is almost upon us and I don't know about you but it's something I look forward to every year. Even when the Boston Bruins aren't involved. On Monday, January 2nd the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins will take to the ice at Historic Fenway Park but there's so much more than just the game to enjoy around this classic event.   The Uniforms Along with the NHL revealing the Official Winter Classic logo on November 1st the Bruins previewed their logo of choice, bringing us back to a time of great Causeway Street hockey featuring the Boston Pooh Bear logo, more affectionately known as "Meth Bear" around these parts. Patrice Bergeron and his teammates will don the retro jerseys of black and gold that feature the version of the bear the team used as their secondary logo (and shoulder patch) from the mid-70s to late '90s a time when greats like Bourque, Neely and O'Reilly were playing and, according to MSNBCSports, the text BOSTON is an homage to the team's original jersey from 1948. Linus Ullmark memorializes Andy Moog, adding four bears on the back representing his family. Jeremy Swayman chose to pay homage to Bryan Dafoe and the 90's in general, also including a nod to baseball with "Big Papi" David Ortiz, Curt Schilling and the great Ted Williams represented. These throwbacks are fire! Check out what our own Ty Anderson had to say about them. The Rink If you were lucky enough to be at Fenway Park in 2010 when the Bruins played Philly you'll probably remember that the view of the rink, ahem, could've been better. Well, the NHL listened. This time around the ice will stretch from Third base into shallow right field, running parallel with the Green Monster and you can watch as it all comes together. On Monday, December 19th crews descended on Fenway Park to begin construction, which includes over 240 ice pans and 2 inches of ice and fans will be treated to interactive experiences and extensive coverage of the build through NHL social, NHL.com and the NHL Network. In addition to the game ice, the league is also creating a diamond shaped rink a.k.a the "Ice Diamond" to host various local youth teams and other activities.
