As a health benefits company supporting the health needs of Massachusetts state and municipal employees and their families, at Wellpoint (formerly UniCare), we know first responders deal with traumatic and life-threatening situations every day. These high-stress conditions can take a toll on mental health. That’s why Wellpoint is proud to team up with the State Police Association of Massachusetts, Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, the New England Police Benevolent Association, and the Springfield Police Supervisors Association to support the Face-Offs for First Responders campaign to remind first responders that help is available if needed. Wellpoint also offers numerous resources to help members get started on a path to improving their whole health.

“Growing up in Weymouth – I have many friends and family who work as first responders and taken the oath to protect and serve their communities. So it’s an amazing honor for me to team up with 98.5 The Sports Hub, Wellpoint, State Police Association of Massachusetts and Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts to highlight the mental health resources available to them. We want to let them know it’s okay to talk to someone – there’s hope in getting help. If we’re able to reach and save just one first responder through this program – it will all be worth it.” – Charlie Coyle, Boston Center
FACE-OFFS FOR FIRST RESPONDERS MENTAL HEALTH
Wellpoint teams again with Weymouth’s own Charlie Coyle for FACE-OFFS FOR FIRST RESPONDERS to encourage police officers and firefighters in Massachusetts to ask for help if they need it with their mental health. Charlie talks about the important role First Responders play and why we must do all we can to protect them as they help protect and serve our communities: Wellpoint health coverage protects their whole health.
FACE-OFFS FOR FIRST RESPONDERS YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH
Wellpoint teams with CHARLIE COYLE to educate youth this season about how playing sports benefits their mental health through physical activity, reducing stress, fostering social connections, teaching teamwork and building self-esteem. For every Boston Faceoff Win, Wellpoint will donate $15, up to $15,000, to provide street hockey equipment to children in 15 Massachusetts communities. FRANKLIN SPORTS provides $1,000 gift cards to purchase street hockey equipment.
