SUNRISE, FL - APRIL 21: Goaltender Linus Ullmark #35 of the Boston Bruins warms up prior to the game against the Florida Panthers in Game Three of the First Round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs at the FLA Live Arena on April 21, 2023 in Sunrise, Florida. (Photo by Joel Auerbach/Getty Images)

Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark seemed close to sitting out Game 3 against the Florida Panthers on Friday night. Instead, not only did he play, but he stopped 29 of 31 shots in a convincing 4-2 win.

The B’s made life relatively easy on Ullmark, putting forth their best defensive effort of the series so far. They led 4-0 at one point and allowed just 12 shots on goal through the first two periods. But it was encouraging that Ullmark was able to play after being a game-time decision, and that he made 17 third-period saves as the Panthers made a strong final push.

If Ullmark is concerned at all about his health situation, he’s putting on a good poker face.

  • Ullmark was asked after the game when he knew he’d be able to play in Game 3 on Friday. Ullmark was reticent about it, but seemed to feel good overall.

“I don’t know,” Ullmark said, with a slight smirk. “There’s no set time or anything like that. But, I felt good in the morning, had a good night of sleep, lot of sun outside, so…”

The Bruins recently called up Brandon Bussi from Providence as an emergency third option in goal ahead of Game 1 last Monday. Ullmark continues to work through an undisclosed injury, but it hasn’t actually kept him out of a game to this point.

  • That said, Ullmark isn’t totally out of the woods yet. Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery told reporters Saturday that Jeremy Swayman is being considered to start Game 4 on Sunday.

Elsewhere on the injury front, Patrice Bergeron didn’t make the trip but is considered likely to return for Game 5 next Wednesday in Boston. As for David Krejci, Montgomery said he’s considered questionable for Game 4.

Game 4 takes place on Sunday at FLA Live Arena, with an early start time of 3:30 p.m. ET.
