  • The NHL built it, and the Bruins came.

Back at Fenway Park for the first time since the 2010 Winter Classic, the Bruins jumped off their bus to America’s most beloved ballpark like they were coming out of a corn field in Iowa, with the entire team in throwback Red Sox uniforms.

  • “Field of Dreams and a combination of Eight Men Out,” Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said of his team’s look. “The guys walked in vintage Red Sox outfits, and you come back to how lucky we are to be in such a great event.”

The baseball look is the follow-up to the 2021 ’90s look the Bruins donned at Lake Tahoe, and their first Winter Classic look since 2019’s ‘Peaky Blinder Bruins’ look at the 2019 Winter Classic at Notre Dame.

  • The baseball theme went beyond the arrival, as the Bruins went out to Fenway Park’s (fake) snow-covered field and played catch for an extended stretch. (This is how and where I learned that Bruins winger David Pastrnak throws lefty.) Trent Frederic was the most natural baseball player of the group, which is probably no surprise given his status as a standout during his prep school days and before he jumped into hockey as his No. 1 sport.

  • The Penguins also showed up to the ballpark in baseball uniforms (they threw it back to the Pirates, of course), but Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said that it was not coordinated with the Bruins.
