HIGHLIGHTS: Bruins beat Capitals in shootout
With their postseason tickets punched earlier this week, it has become a fight for playoff seeding for the Bruins, who remain in the hunt for the top seed in both the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference.
And led by Kevin Shattenkirk’s shootout strike in the top of the fifth round, the Bruins took their latest step forward in that respect by way of a 3-2 shootout final over the Caps at Washington’s Capital One Arena.
For Boston, it was the club’s fourth shootout victory of the season, and first since a Feb. 19 shootout marathon against Dallas. The shootout also proved to be the deserved finale for the Bruins after the club successfully killed off a four-minute penalty in the overtime frame, with Hampus Lindholm whistled for a high-sticking double-minor against T.J. Oshie.

Prior to his penalty, this was looking like a monster game for the 6-foot-4 Lindholm, who was reunited with Charlie McAvoy on Boston’s top pairing, as he saved a goal out of the Boston goal in the opening moments of this game and scored a goal in the closing moments of the first period of play.

Boston’s second goal of the evening came from their fourth line, as Johnny Beecher forced a turnover and responded to a Washington goal with a strike of his own a mere 62 seconds after the Capitals tied things up following a bad change from the B’s.
