Did Brad Marchand really deserve a penalty for this?
Brad Marchand got penalized for his reputation Tuesday night.
Maybe it’s all moot because the Bruins played some of their worst hockey of the season in a 4-1 loss to the Flames at TD Garden. The officiating is never going to be perfect. But the Bruins’ performance was SO bad, that you almost have to throw it all down the crapper and just focus on smaller details.

As you can see from the video, Marchand did something that happens, um, a billion times a game. That’s just an approximation. But no one should really ever actually get penalized for that. Especially when the other guy comes in and delivers a vicious stick to the face.
The officials took several minutes to review the play, after putting both Marchand and the Flames’ Martin Pospisil in the sin bin. They ultimately determined that Marchand goes for a slashing minor while Pospisil gets a 5-minute major and game misconduct for cross-checking.
