Powered by three goals by David Pastrnak, good for the 12th hat trick of Pastrnak’s career, the Bruins topped the Lightning by a 3-2 Thursday night final at TD Garden. With the win, the Bruins leapfrogged the Bolts for third place in the Atlantic Division.
In an 0-1 hole on a Brandon Hagel shorthanded goal scored at the 7:11 mark of the second period, Pastrnak responded with a goal just 2:44 later, and responded for the Bruins in the third period four minutes and change after Steven Stamkos put the Bolts back on top early in the third period.
Even at 2-2 with less than five minutes remaining in the third, Pastrnak and the Bruins wore the Lightning down in the defensive zone before Pastrnak found his opening on the Bolts’ Andrei Vasilevskiy for the go-ahead goal with 4:10 remaining in regulation.
The Bruins locked down the fort from there, as Jeremy Swayman stopped 22-of-24 shots for the victory.
Trade deadline pickup Hampus Lindholm made his Bruins debut, and finished with an assist, four shots, and four hits in 23:26 of time on ice opposite Charlie McAvoy on Boston’s top pairing.
The Bruins will continue their homestand with a Saturday 12:30 p.m. matinee against the Islanders.
