On the eve of their preseason finale, the Bruins whittled their training camp roster down to an almost completely NHLer group.
Up front, the Bruins assigned Ryan Fitzgerald, Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson, and Jordan Szwarz to the Providence Bruins, while rookie sensation Jakub Lauko was signed and assigned to Rouyn-Noranda of the QMJHL.
The demotion down to Providence for Forsbacka Karlsson comes after what was an ultimately unsuccessful bid for the B's vacant third-line center job, and aligns JFK for another season in Providence's top six, at least to begin the 2018-19 season. What seemed to be the nail in the coffin for Forsbacka Karlsson's Opening Night hopes (at least if the Bruins remain healthy between now and Oct. 3's season opener in Washington) was a completely quiet Wednesday showing against Detroit.
Lauko, meanwhile, turned a strong preseason start featuring two goals in two games into an entry-level deal with the B's organization, though it will be played in Canada versus the American run he hoped for.
On the backend, 2015 first-round pick Jakub Zboril will begin his season in Providence.
Limited by injury throughout camp, Zboril's return to Providence leaves the Bruins with an all-NHL defensive group with the exception of 2017 first-round pick Urho Vaakanainen.
Third-string goaltender Zane McIntyre, meanwhile, was placed on waivers for purpose of assignment to Providence.
The Bruins conclude their preseason Saturday with a 5 p.m. head-to-head with the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden.
