Felger: What did Derek Carr sign for?
Jim Murray: 150 million. 100 million guaranteed. Four years.
Felger: Four years. $150 million. $37.5 a year. $100 million real dollars guaranteed. $100 million. Lamar Jackson, the franchise tag is what, $45million?
Mazz: Something like that. The exclusive one. Yeah.
Felger: I heard last night from Bert Breer. Jimmy Garoppolo is asking for $30 million.
Jim Murray: I was going to say, hearing this car number today, this means Garoppolo is going to get 25 to 30.
Felger: Garoppolo is going to get 25 to 30. Daniel Jones is about to sign for just south of $40 million a year, right around that area, right around $40 million a year. Oh, and Aaron Rodgers is guaranteed $59 million this year and $100 million as well over the next two.
Mazz: Yup.
Felger: And you people think that they’re going to move on from Mac Jones anytime soon. Are you freaking nuts?Have you not paid attention to the Patriots and how they do business? And I’m not talking about the quality of the player. That’s not a part of this conversation.
Mazz: Correct. You’re talking just about the contract.
Felger: You know what Mac Jones is, I think, if I read it right today looking up his contract, what his real cash outlay is this year?
Mazz: $3 million?
Felger: I think it’s $2.2 million. Two point something each of the next two years. Mac Jones is due from the team two point something million dollars each of the next two years. So you’re saying the Patriots are going to move on from paying someone two point something million dollars a year each of the next two years to giving some asshat like Derek Carr $100 million guaranteed? You people are stupid. I don’t care how much Mac Jones sucks. He’s not going anywhere. It’s too good of a deal. Even if he’s the 25th ranked quarterback in the league, that’s still a good deal. He’s not going anywhere. Not only is he going to have a chance to prove himself this year, they’re going to look at that contract and go, “Well, yeah, it was the first year with Bill O’Brien. He had to ease himself in. He had to work in a new left tackle. Yeah, he deserves another year”, because they’re going to look across the landscape and see one asshat horrible quarterback after the next get $30, $40, $50 million guaranteed, $100 million guaranteed, and they’re going to say, “no chance. We like our guy just fine”. He’s not going anywhere.
