The Patriots are almost done filling out their initial practice squad, making two more signings on Friday.
As the initial wave of roster movement following cutdown settles down, the New England Patriots are finishing up filling out their practice squad. That included two more signings announced by the team on Friday.
One signing is cornerback Isaiah Bolden, who was released by the team on Wednesday to make room for the initial waiver claims. Bolden himself that had to go through the waiver process, preventing the Patriots from bringing him back along with the other three players who were cut on Wednesday.
The Patriots also added linebacker Ochaun Mathis to the practice squad on Friday. Mathis, 25, was drafted by the Rams in the sixth round last year out of Nebraska and played in eight games as a rookie. He was let go during final roster cuts.
After adding Bolden and Mathis, the Patriots now have 14 of their 16 practice squad spots filled. That’s after signing groups of players on Wednesday and Thursday. The team also kept defensive end Jotham Russell on the practice squad, although he doesn’t count against the 16-player limit as a member of the NFL’s International Pathway Program.
In addition to the two practice squad signings the Patriots also made a third roster move on Friday. The team also released tackle Calvin Anderson with an injury settlement, according to Doug Kyed of The Boston Herald.
