Patriots work out recent first-round cornerback
The New England Patriots worked free-agent cornerback Caleb Farley, who was drafted in the first round not too long ago.
Despite plenty of cornerback depth in New England, the Patriots are looking at possible free-agent additions.
The latest workout in Foxboro is an intriguing name: the Pats brought in former Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley, as reported by ESPN’s Field Yates on Tuesday. Farley originally went to Tennessee as the 22nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, just seven spots after the Patriots drafted quarterback Mac Jones.
Farley played only 12 games over his first three seasons with the Titans, as the 25-year-old has dealt with a significant injury history. He tore his ACL in just his third career game during his rookie season, an injury he had also suffered during his time at Virginia Tech.

Back problems have followed Farley throughout his football career. He underwent back surgery prior to the 2021 draft, then a herniated disc in 2022 led to a microdiscectomy procedure that kept him out through the entire 2023 season.
Farley returned to the Titans for off-season workouts earlier this year, telling The Tennessean he thought at one point that he would never play football again. Farley dealt with a hamstring injury during training camp and the Titans ultimately waived him as part of final roster cuts.
“Do I believe that I have more than enough to get the job done at a high level? Absolutely,” Farley told The Tennessean in June.
The Patriots have a crowded cornerback room, but it’s unclear exactly how the team will deploy its corners on the perimeter alongside second-year pro Christian Gonzalez. The Pats’ unofficial depth chart lists veteran Jonathan Jones as a starting outside corner, with Marcus Jones in the slot. Alex Austin, Marco Wilson, and rookie Marcellas Dial Jr. are the other candidates to play on the outside.

Still just 25 years old, Farley may yet get another chance in the NFL, whether it’s in New England or elsewhere. But of course, he would need to prove to his next team that he can stay healthy.
