Lionel Messi is coming to Gillette Stadium on Saturday night, one of the greatest athletes of all time and arguably the most famous man in the world will be in Foxboro to take on the New England Revolution. Messi mania has been taking over the States since his move to Inter Miami CF nine months ago. Selling out stadiums wherever he goes breaking attendance records and hopefully ushering in a new era of soccer into the United States. The revolution are planning on this being their highest attended game ever and it would take a miracle for it not to be. People will be showing up from all over to catch a glimpse of one of the greatest athletes of all time.

From a Revolution perspective, this is an exciting experience getting this much exposure, but the team has been a massive disappointment this year. Fans are upset with new head coach Caleb Porter, some of his tactics and his playing time for some players have irked fans. Also there’s rumors around the team that they’re trying to sell, arguably their best defender this season Dave Romney. Even more frustrating to some fans is that they’re trying to sell him for below market price. The Revolution go into this game struggling on and off the field as a player they just signed this week had some unfortunate social media posts resurface, calling into question managements decision to bring him in.

On the positive side for the Revs this is a massive chance to showcase themselves in front of more eyeballs than they’re used to getting. The Revolution do have one star in Carles Gil but he can only do so much. Because of the Revs lack of other stars Gil is targeted on a weekly basis as teams make it a point to make his life as difficult as possible. The Joe Murray show had Taylor Twellman on last week and he said the only thing that’s even slightly comparable to Messi coming to Gillette was when Taylor Swift was there not too long ago, but I expect Messi mania to surpass that and Gillette's attendance record.
