Jaylen Brown named Eastern Conference Player of the Week
98.5 The Sports Hub staff report
Jaylen Brown’s undeniable strides forward towards potential superstar status are no longer unnoticed by the NBA, as the league named Brown the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 23 through Dec. 29.
The honor comes after a week that saw the 23-year-old Brown average a Celtic-high 27.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and one steal over three games at Toronto and at home against Cleveland and Toronto. Brown hit these numbers while also shooting 62.2 percent (and 57.9 percent from three-point land), making him the only Eastern Conference competitor to produce at least 25.0 points on 60 percent shooting throughout the week.
Brown reached the 30-point mark in both of the Green’s victories, including a career-high 34-point performance on 13-of-20 shooting against the Cavaliers on Dec. 27. Brown scored 30 points the previous game on Christmas Day in Toronto, marking the first time in his career he’s produced at least 30 points in consecutive games.
Brown is actually the first Celtics player to receive Player of the Week honors since Isaiah Thomas did so in Feb. 2017.
The Celtics, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with a Saturday loss to the Raptors, are back in action tomorrow afternoon against the Charlotte Hornets.
