Felger & Mazz

The Boston Bruins took down the Florida Panthers in game 1 of their 7 games series. However, the guys on Felger and Mazz didn’t think that the Bruins were all that great in their victory.

  • A few postgame quotes from Jim Montgomery that caught the guy's attention

  • The guy's don't think the Bruins were all that great

Felger: I think we’ll just start off pissing people off or Bruins fans off. I don’t think they were that great last night.

    Mazz: They weren’t.

Felger: I was glad to hear the coach and some of the players all sort of acknowledge it. I don’t think they were all that great last night.

Mazz: They weren’t. I thought Florida was the better team, frankly.

Felger: So I’m not quite sure if I’d go that far. But it wasn’t like I saw some sort of big gap, some head and tails gap between you and that Florida Panther team. And there is roster wise, I mean, the kind of year you’ve had wise, there is a big gap. There should be a big gap. I should see it. And in that game last night, I didn’t quite see it. And so Jim Montgomery says “we were surprised by the playoff intensity and might have shown a little bit of nerves”. Okay, glad to hear it. Not like he was getting on the team or anything, it was just sort of an honest assessment, which is what we’re about on this program, an honest assessment. I don’t think they were all that good last night. But let’s discuss, shall we? Your thoughts on the Bruins last night. Who wants to go first?

Jim Murray: So for the first two periods outside of that first few minutes I thought the Panthers were better. Now, once that third goal went in from Jake Debrusk I thought it was over. I thought the third period was all Bruins and that game was like pretty much an afterthought at that point. But overall, I think it was kind of even. I thought the Bruins defenseman specifically their two best in Orlov and it Lindholm didn’t really have the best night. They won because of the goalie and Tyler Bertuzzi, who seems to be like an “X-factor” for this team ever since they started pairing up with Pastrnak. So because they’re so deep they can have a flawed night like they had and still win the game. But other than that, I didn’t think that they like blew the doors off the Panthers. I think they mostly won because that goalie for Florida, “the Cowardly Lyon”, is just that. That guy’s kind of a puddle and they’re idiots for sticking with him.

Mazz: I mean, you heard Judd Sirott right there say the game winning goal was scored by Brad Marchand…(Buzzer noise) game winning goal was scored by Alex Lyon. That’s who the game winning goal was scored by. And look, again, i’m not trying to be a wise ass, I’m telling you I thought Florida played better than the Bruins did last night. I didn’t tell you it was a blowout. And I looked up all the metrics on some of the advanced sites: scoring chances, Florida had more. High danger chances, Florida had more. If you get into the Corsi and the Fenwick, if you want to believe in that sort of stuff, Florida had more. Expected goals, Florida should have won the game 3-2. You know why they didn’t? Because the goalie sucked and gave up two goals that he shouldn’t have given up. I mean, one was obvious, the Marchand goal. We all know that. And the second one, you got to tie that puck up. You can’t just let it sit there. So i’m not telling you the Bruins were terrible. I don’t think they were terrible. The game was close. I mean it was a tight game.
