Cooper Flagg unanimous First Team All-America selection
Newport, Maine native Cooper Flagg has taken the collegiate basketball world by storm as a freshman at Duke University. Not only is he widely regarded as the front-runner for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, he was also named a unanimous Associated Press First Team All-American.
Flagg joins basketball Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing, who played high school ball at Cambridge Rindge and Latin before becoming a three-time All-American at Georgetown; Providence native Marvin Barnes, a three-time All-American at Providence College; and Hartford native/former UMass star Marcus Camby, among the most notable New England-based basketball players to earn one of college basketball’s highest honors.
During his attention-grabbing freshman year, Flagg averaged 18.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game for the Blue Devils. He received all 61 of the AP’s first place votes.
In all likelihood, Flagg will enter the NBA Draft following Duke’s NCAA Tournament run, they are the top-seeded team in the tournament. He is expected to be selected with the first pick in the draft and make an immediate impact on whichever team he goes to.
