As first reported by Shams Charania on Saturday afternoon, the Celtics have waived forward Lonnie Walker IV, opening up their 15th roster spot. Walker originally signed with the Celtics back in August, as a late-in-the-game addition prior to training camp.
Walker averaged 7.3 points and 16.4 minutes per game during the preseason for the Celtics. He spent the 2023-24 season with the Brooklyn Nets, playing 58 games with zero starts and averaging 9.7 points per game. The six-year NBA veteran has also played for the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers.
The Celtics will enter the 2024-25 season with an open roster spot, with the season opener coming Oct. 22 against the New York Knicks at TD Garden. Their frontcourt consists of Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, Luke Kornet, Xavier Tillman, and Neemias Queta.
