The Boston Celtics have made a substantial commitment to reserve forward Sam Hauser.

Hauser has agreed to a four-year extension with the Celtics for $45 million, his agent Jason Glushon confirmed to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Celtics recently exercised Hauser’s option for $2 million in the 2024-25 season, making his $10.125 million average annual value over the following four seasons a massive raise.

A sharpshooting wing off the bench, Hauser shot 42.4% from three-point range in the 2023-24 regular season. He most recently shot 47.8% from downtown in the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks, including a well-timed triple in the first quarter of Game 1.

The Hauser contract now puts the Celtics’ payroll at $225 million with an additional $210M luxury tax penalty, keeping them well over the second salary cap apron (via Woj).

This is a clear signal by the Celtics and President of Basketball Ops Brad Stevens that they view Hauser as a key piece of their forward rotation over the life of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s max contracts. He’s been a steady three-point presence for a Celtics team that has often sought scoring depth behind their two stars.
