The Soccer Show – Ema Boateng: Revs “motivated to keep pushing and stay hungry”
The New England Revolution remain red-hot following a 2-1 win over reigning Supporters’ Shield winner FC Cincinnati, the club’s fourth consecutive victory, on the road last weekend. Tonight, the Revolution return home for another tough test against an Ohio opponent, facing the reigning MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew at Gillette Stadium.
Revolution midfielder Ema Boateng joined D.J. Bean on “The Soccer Show” this morning to preview tonight’s Eastern Conference battle and share how the inside scoop on how the Revs have put themselves back in the playoff picture.
“It’s great. I mean, you cherish it,” Boateng said of the team’s four-game winning streak. “You know how hard it was early on, not winning and having to struggle through some games. But I think all of that helped us to where we are right now. We feel good. We have a lot of guys missing week in and week out and we’ve still been getting results, playing the way we want to play.
“Winning four games is great but we’re very motivated to keep pushing and stay hungry. We’re still in a hole right now.”
According to Boateng, New England’s recent surge doesn’t come down to any dramatic changes or major adjustments. The ninth-year MLS veteran said the Revolution have remained committed to Head Coach Caleb Porter’s unwavering vision for the team, and that dedication is now paying clear dividends.
“Winning aside, we can see a lot of the things that Caleb was planning early in the season that we’re trying to work on,” Boateng said. “It’s still not 100 percent, but we’re really seeing some results that are really encouraging. Everybody feels good in training.”
Porter will coach against his former team, Columbus, for the first time since joining New England tonight. At Columbus, Porter managed the Crew to their second MLS Cup title in 2020, with Boateng on the roster, during his four-year tenure from 2019-22.
The defending MLS Cup champions have won five of their last six matches, including a 4-0 rout of Sporting Kansas City last weekend. But after taking down one of the top teams in the league last weekend, the Revolution are looking forward to the challenge, especially in their own house.
“They’re a good team. They play well. I like watching them,” Boateng said of his former club. “They’re a very good team, but we feel good with where we’re at. We’re not looking at the table right now, we just want to stack good performances and good results together. Coming off a four-game winning streak, I think we’re good. I think we’re ready to compete, play well, and have a lot of fun.”
Tonight’s match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and is free to watch MLS Season Pass in English and Spanish. Listen to every Revolution game on 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies on the call.
