The Soccer Show – Calen Carr: For Revolution, “Every week, it’s going to be a fight”
The New England Revolution will go for their third consecutive victory tonight, and their second win on the bounce at home, when they welcome Vancouver Whitecaps FC to Gillette Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Tonight’s match airs on 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the Revs’ first encounter with a Western Conference opponent this season.
Calen Carr, one of the top analysts on MLS Season Pass and a former pro with the Chicago Fire and Houston Dynamo, joined D.J. Bean on The Soccer Show this morning to catch listeners up on the Revs’ season to date and a pivotal home match against Vancouver.
“They’re now starting to dig themselves out of a hole a little bit,” Carr said. “These last two weeks, you see that foothold. They have to build that, especially at home this weekend.”
New England’s climb up the ladder will be aided by this home-heavy stretch, where the Revolution will play four of their next six games in Foxborough. After the team’s historically slow start to the 2024 season, tonight’s match presents an opportunity for the Revolution to continue logging much-needed points.
“For me, if you want to make the playoffs, you have to win your home games,” Carr said. “That’s where I look at this match almost as a playoff game and I think you have to approach it that way.
“Every week, it’s going to be a fight. You have to win the home games, absolutely. You have to beat teams, especially when you think of Vancouver having to travel across a country.”
On the attacking end, it starts with midfielder Carles Gil, who has found the scoresheet in three of the last five games. Gil leads New England with five goals and three assists this season, including game-winning helpers in the last two outings. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič has backstopped a Revolution defense that has conceded just one goal from open play over the last three matches.
Vancouver, also in search of its third straight win, has been formidable on the road this season with a 4-2-2 record.
“For the Revs, you cannot relax at this point. I think that sense of urgency, we’ll see it [against Vancouver].”
