Stephon Gilmore is taking his apparent displeasure to Twitter
I don’t know much. But I do know that whenever someone says, “Oh, OK” about something, it’s usually anything but.
Oh, hello, Stephon Gilmore!
In the midst of an apparent holdout with the New England Patriots, Gilmore quote-tweeted a (since-deleted) tweet from CBS Sports HQ highlighting the 10 highest-paid corners in the NFL. Gilmore, of course, did not make the top 10 listing this season, and his tweet certainly said it all when it came to his feelings on that.

(Insert grimacing emoji here.)
In case you’re wondering, the $7.7 million Gilmore is due to make in 2021 makes him the 26th-highest paid corner in football. Even with a restructure that gave him more money in 2020 to avoid this exact thing a year ago, that’s simply not enough for a player who’s less than two years removed from AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Perhaps some of the reluctance on the part of the Patriots (in addition to the fact that they doled out extra money Gilmore’s way a year ago) is that Gilmore is coming off an injury-shortened 2020 campaign that featured 37 tackles, one interception, and three passes defended in 11 games. Those were all Patriot-career lows for the 30-year-old shutdown corner.
But taking the dispute to Twitter? That’s typically not a sign of progress towards a resolution.
Even if it’s “just business.”
The Patriots and Gilmore will have about a month to work through their disagreement before it hits Gilmore’s wallet even harder via additional fines, as the Patriots are scheduled to open training camp in the final week of July.
