In a legal tampering period full of departures, the New England Patriots finally made their first external addition on Tuesday, as the team will reportedly sign wide receiver Damiere Byrd to a one-year deal, according to Mike Garafolo.
After spending the first three years of his NFL career with Carolina, the 5-foot-9 Byrd established career-highs during an 11-game run with the Cardinals in 2019, with 32 grabs on 46 targets for 359 yards. Byrd also reeled in one touchdown grab for the Cardinals, which was just one shy of matching his career-high two scores in eight games with the 2017 Panthers.

Byrd, who played his college ball with South Carolina before going undrafted, also has noteworthy experience in the return game, with 14 career kick returns and 12 career punt returns. Byrd has averaged over 25 yards per kick return (he scored on a 103-yard kickoff return back in 2017), and has averaged just over nine yards in his 12 punt returns.
Overall, Byrd has totaled 44 catches for 488 yards and three touchdowns in 28 career games.
