Carson Smith, we barely knew ye.

The Red Sox cut ties with the fragile reliever on Thursday, activating him from the disabled list and outrighting him to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Smith opted for free agency after clearing waivers.

Smith appeared in 29 games for the team over the course of three seasons. He infamously threw his glove after a bad outing in May, injuring his shoulder in the process. Smith required season-ending surgery and was never seen in a Red Sox uniform again.

He was acquired from the Mariners before the 2016 season for left-handed pitcher Wade Miley. Neither team got much out of the deal. Miley had a 4.98 ERA for Seattle over 19 starts.
