The New England Patriots are reportedly hiring Ashton Grant as their quarterbacks coach. Grant has spent the last two years with the Cleveland Browns.

It looks like New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has his positional coach for his second NFL season. According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the Patriots are hiring Ashton Grant as their quarterbacks coach.

Grant has spent the last five years with the Cleveland Browns. His first NFL coaching gig was with Cleveland in 2020 as part of the Bill Willis Coaching Fellowship. In 2022 he was promoted to an offensive quality control coach, and then the next year his title was changed to offensive assistant/quarterbacks.

Last year Grant worked with new Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, who was with the Browns as a coaching and personnel consultant. Grant also spent multiple seasons working with former Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, who also joined the Browns in 2020 and was their offensive coordinator until being fired after the 2023 season.

Prior to joining the Browns, Grant was a GA on the staff at Holy Cross. The Manchester, Conn. native played wide receiver in college at Assumption, where he was named 2016 Northeast-10 Offensive Player of the Year.

Now with the Patriots Grant will work closely with Josh McDaniels, who was hired as the team's offensive coordinator earlier this week. In his past stints as the Patriots' OC McDaniels has often doubled up as the team's quarterbacks coach. With Grant's hire it seems like McDaniels won't have that title this time around, but it would make sense for him to still be significantly involved with the quarterbacks.

Grant is the second reported positional coaching hire on the offensive side of the ball for the Patriots. The team is also expected to hire running backs coach Tony Dews, who worked with Vrabel in Tennessee.
