Revolution’s Alhassan Yusuf: “Next season, we’ll come back stronger”
On the final episode of “The Soccer Show” for the 2024 season, host D.J. Bean was joined by New England Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf this morning. The 24-year-old, who joined the Revolution via transfer in August, shared his initial impressions of Major League Soccer and offered a positive outlook on what lies ahead for the club in 2025.
Yusuf’s adjustment to MLS after a three-year tenure with Belgian topflight Royal Antwerp F.C. was a challenge he looked forward to upon arriving in New England.
“For me, it was a decision that I took to come here after speaking with [Caleb Porter],” Yusuf said. “For sure, he explained everything to me. I said it was something that I would like to take, the challenge to come here, and show what I can give to the team and to the league.”
The Nigerian international made seven appearances for the Revs in his debut MLS campaign, including five starts, recording two assists. Yusuf collected an assist on winger Luca Langoni’s goal in last weekend’s season finale at powerhouse Inter Miami CF.
“So far, it’s been good,” Yusuf said. “The town, the city, also my teammates. I’m just looking forward to next year.”
The 2024 season left a lot to be desired for the Revs, who missed the playoffs for just the second time in the last six years. For Yusuf, a full preseason to build more chemistry with his teammates next winter will pay dividends in leading to better results for New England in 2025.
“For me, I’m just looking forward to come back for the preseason, you know, to get started with this team,” Yusuf said. “I still believe in this team. We have so much talent on this team, I believe. Also, the style of play, for me, and [Caleb Porter]. It’s just, kind of football sometimes is a really crazy thing. You can put everything together, but it’s not going to work. I believe that next season, we’re going to come back stronger. It’s going to be better.”
Today’s episode of “The Soccer Show” recaps the 2024 season and includes an interview with Brad Feldman.
