McLaughlin's move to the wire comes after a preseason effort that featured two shots, two hits, and a faceoff win in two preseason outings for the Black and Gold. The North Billerica, Mass. native was also whistled for a penalty, and 'credited' with three giveaways over that preseason run.
A definite longshot to make the B's roster out of the gate given their surplus of bottom-six talents, the 25-year-old McLaughlin is coming off a 2023-24 season that featured eight goals and 14 points in 68 games for Ryan Mougenel's Providence squad. McLaughlin also made one NHL appearance during the 2023-24 season, and scored a goal in what was a rather forgettable night on Long Island.
Signed as an undrafted free agent back in 2022, McLaughlin has compiled four goals and 21 hits in 14 NHL games, but has struggled to get the same rope under Jim Montgomery that he did under Bruce Cassidy during his brief-but-efficient run late in the 2021-22 campaign.
