35 Players From 2004 World Series Team Expected At Red Sox Opening Day
20 years ago the curse was reversed in historic fashion. To celebrate this, 35 players from the Boston Red Sox 2004 team will attend the home opener at Fenway Park.
The Baltimore Orioles are in town today to kick things off on for the home opener. First pitch is slated for 2:10 pm. However, fans will want to get inside the park early. Prior to the game, there will be ceremonies paying tribute to the legendary 2004 team that came back from an 0-3 deficit to the Yankees in the ALCS, and then went on to win the World Series.
In addition, there will also be a moving tribute to former Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino, Tim Wakefield, and his wife Stacy. “In honor of former Red Sox President/CEO Larry Lucchino and Red Sox Hall of Famer Tim Wakefield, “Play Ball” will be said by children from The Jimmy Fund and Franciscan Children’s Hospital,” the Red Sox said in a press release.
Each fan in attendance will receive a commemorative Tim Wakefield pin upon entry.

What Else To Expect, Opening Day At Fenway Park
Prior to pregame ceremonies, members of the 2004 Championship team will be presented with the “‘Reversed the Curse’ sign by Governor Maura Healey, Mayor Michelle Wu, and DCR Commissioner Brian Arrigo at the Hotel Commonwealth before boarding duck boats en route to Fenway Park,” the team said.
The teams will be introduced along the baselines prior to the National Anthem. Then, a fly-over by two F-35’s from the Vermont Air National Guard’s 158th Fighter Wing Unit and one KC-46 from the New Hampshire Air National Guard’s 157th Air Refueling Wing will take place prior to the start of the game.
You can also expect a beautiful day. Temperatures will be in the high 50’s, under a sunny sky. The pitching matchup is Corbin Burnes vs Brayan Bello.
Currently, the Red Sox, who had a very successful west coast road trip to start the season, are 7-3, with the Yankees just ahead of them at 9-2. The Orioles are now 5-4 after losing two of three games in Pittsburgh.
