Gary Myers: ‘Belichick gets traded after the season’
On Thursday’s Felger & Mazz program, author Gary Myers joins the show to discuss the future of Bill Belichick.
WHERE DOES BELICHICK END UP NEXT SEASON?
Mazz: I know you’ve written some things on Twitter over the last several weeks regarding Bill Belichick—the magnitude of that story. So, tell me how you think this is going to play out. Is this Belichick’s final year in New England? And if so, where do you think he’s going?
Gary Myers: I think he’ll get traded after the season. There’s no way a businessman like Robert Kraft will let Belichick leave. He’s not going to fire him. He’s not going to make them go through the indignity of that.
And I think, as I’ve said all along, I think the Chargers are clearly the number one possibility. And my dark-horse candidate is the Cowboys, after they lose in the divisional round of the playoffs again this year.
I wrote in a column the year before that perhaps this is the time to come back to the Giants for Belichick. I think it was right after Seth Wickersham had written a long piece on ESPN about some of the friction in the organization. And I asked Belichick, “Would you ever consider that?”.
And, he said to me, “I can’t go to a place where I’ve got to rebuild the entire front office. I can’t do that at this point in my life.”.
So, I think you can probably apply that to what his thought process would be on whatever his next step is. Forget about Carolina and forget about Washington. He’s not going to these places. It will take him three or four years to build things up.
But I think when he evaluates situations, he will look to where he can win 16 games in a two-year period. And in that two-year period, he’ll need a really good chance to win a Super Bowl.
I’ve mentioned Dallas before, and that was actually the first team that I brought up, before I jumped on the Chargers theory. I know he has a good relationship with Jerry Jones. I know that Belichick’s friendship with Parcells is better now than it ever has been. Despite what people might think, people love working with Jerry Jones. Parcells enjoyed working with Jones much more than he enjoyed working with Robert Kraft, although I think he regrets the way things ended in New England.
Gary Myers: But I think Parcells would highly recommend to Belichick—if the situation presents itself—to go work in Dallas.

Mazz' Tiers: NBA Playoff Contender Edition
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers claimed the first ever NBA In-Season Tournament last week. During the tournament, James averaged 26.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists while shooting 56.8 percent from the floor and 60.6 percent from behind the three-point arc. The tournament was widely considered a successful venture for the NBA.
Typically, the first couple months of the NBA season are considered as being slow or boring. With this new initiative, the league saw an increase in interest from fans and players.
TODAY’S TOP STORY IN THE NBA
Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors was suspended indefinitely by league commissioner Adam Silver. The suspension follows the incident of Green hitting the Suns’ Jusuf Nurkic in the face during a game this past Tuesday. Green is a habitual foul committer. He is expected to receive a more specific punishment in the following days. He is also mandated to meet certain league and team conditions before returning to play. It could be assumed that he won’t be eligible to return until after the new year.
Unfortunately for Boston fans, the Celtics were eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the tournament, losing to the Indiana Pacers 122-112. The Pacers pulled away late in the game to seal their victory over the Green team. The Pacers would go on to advance to the final round of the In-Season tournament. They, of course, lost to the Lakers in the final game of the tournament.
The Eastern conference playoff picture currently looks like this: Celtics, Bucks, Magic, 76ers, Pacers, Heat, Knicks, Nets, Cavaliers and Raptors. And, in the West: Timberwolves, Thunder, Mavericks, Nuggets, Lakers, Kings, Rockets, Clippers, Pelicans and Suns.
Now, with the In-Season Tournament in the rearview mirror, Tony Mazz shifts his gears towards playoff contending teams. In a three-tier system, he ranks the best contending teams in the NBA.
