Celtics become latest team to place player in NBA COVID protocols
As COVID cases rise across the country, sports leagues are not immune. The NBA has been hit hard, with 47 players (and a few coaches) entering the league’s health & safety COVID protocols in December alone. Thursday’s count alone is in double-digits. 36 players are currently in the protocol, which is about seven percent of the league.
The Celtics were among the teams impacted on Thursday, placing forward Jabari Parker in health and safety protocols. Parker will now miss at least one game, Friday’s matchup against the Golden State Warriors. His status for the second half of the upcoming back-to-back Saturday against the Knicks is unknown.
Parker has played in nine games for the Celtics this year, averaging five points and two rebounds per game. He was originally signed midway through last season.
Currently, Parker is the only Celtics player in the protocol. Guard Josh Richardson was placed in then passed through the protocol last week.
