Bill Belichick’s Monday morning press conference kicks off ‘Brady Week

Brady Week has arrived. And it didn’t take long to get ramped up, either.

The first question for Bill Belichick during his weekly Monday morning press conference wasn’t about his team’s 28-13 loss to the Saints on Sunday, but instead about why Brady chose to leave New England for Tampa Bay last spring.

“Well, I mean, I’m not going to go back and rehash all that,” Belichick replied. “We’ve talked about that, and really the focus is on the game here, and look, I have so much respect and appreciation for Tom [Brady] and everything he did here and for me and for our team, and we’re just getting ready to compete against Tampa this week, and we’re going to keep our focus on that.”

  Pushed on whether or not he had ever truly spoken about it in the past, Belichick noted "We made a statement when Tom left, and that covered it."
  
  Belichick was also asked about Brady's success since leaving the Patriots. "Tom's a great player," he said. "Nothing surprises me that he does."
  
  After that, the conversation mostly shifted to X's and O's football. There was one other instance where Belichick was asked if he wished he'd made the team a more attractive option for Brady to return to, to which he replied "again, I think we've already covered that."
  
  So that's it. Brady Week Day 1, Part 1. Where will things go from here? Will Belichick continue to refer back to the statement, or add to the dialogue? There's still four days of poking and prodding left to find out.
