David Pastrnak gets hat trick started off just an absolutely absurd feed from Brad Marchand (Video)

David Pastrnak inched closer to hitting the 40-goal mark for the first time in his career on Wednesday against the Canadiens. But this was a relatively easy one, thanks to one of Brad Marchand’s best plays of the season.
Watching this goal unfold reminded me of a scene from The Sopranos, when Paulie Walnuts stormed out of a seance where a medium contacted some “friends” of his from the past. He accused them of “satanic black magic” as he left.
That’s about the only way to explain how Marchand maneuvered through Habs defenders Jeff Petry and Brett Kulak. First the dangle, then the pass somehow. Pastrnak whacked it into an open net for his 39th goal no problem.

Oh and by the way, Marchand later got into a scrap with Petry, the very defenseman he undressed earlier in the period, for matching roughing minors and an extra two minutes for a slash. Not quite a “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” opportunity for No. 63, but an eventful first period nonetheless.
It’s reasonable to be confident that Pastrnak could score No. 40 before the end of the game on Wednesday. As of this writing, the Bruins took a 1-0 lead to the first intermission at TD Garden.
UPDATE: Pastrnak scored goals No. 40 and 41 to not only pass the 40-goal milestone, but score his fourth hat trick of the season. He also became the first player since Gordie Howe to score two hat tricks against the Canadiens in the same season.
